OGOPOGO, Crippled Black Phoenix, and Lockdown with King Bong

Hello, thank you for joining us today. How are you?

Great, thank you!

Tell us a bit about your new album, what was writing and recording for this album like?

Our latest album is OGOPOGO, a collection of improvisations with a very special guest: Chris Haskett from the Rollins Band.

We met in 2019 and we recorded two days of jams exploring the map of a fantasy land that we drew. It was a great experience, we exchanged musical ideas for two days, there was instant chemistry and we had tons of fun.

Given the current state of the world, did it poise any issues towards the completion of the

album?

It was actually recorded in 2019, so that side was covered. We chose to print it with a DIY approach, but meeting in person to work on it has proved difficult due to lockdowns. We wanted to have it out last year, but we had to postpone to March 2021.

Of course the current state of things isn't ideal, have you started to plan for what comes next

once the world starts opening up again?

We have a new album that we’re waiting to record: we started writing it in 2019, then we took it up again in 2020 during summer. We were planning to record in November, but the situation worsened and we went into another lockdown.

Tell us a bit about yourself as a musician, who influences you?

I’m influenced by bassists with a very personal voice: be it Phil Lesh or Bootsy Collins, I like musicians who have unique personalities. I strive for that: I’ve never been able to be a session player.

Who is your biggest bucket list band you've shared the stage with? Who would you love to

share the stage with next?

We played with Crippled Black Phoenix, it was very nice to meet Justin Greaves.

I’d love to play with Tropical Fuck Storm.

What are some of the main themes behind the new album? What story are you trying to

convey?

It’s a journey, an exploration. We have a map and we decide which parts to visit for each session. From the map we can jump into space and land on different moons, each with different musical rules. So there no story, it’s more like a road movie.

Last but not least, is there any message you would like to share with your fans?

The King welcomes everyone under his rule: come with us, you won’t regret it.

Thank you so much for your time!
