Starcrazy's Marcus Fraser Talks "Played For Suckers", Opening For Living Colour, And More
Hello Marcus, thank you for joining us today. How are you?
Thanks for having me, I am very well, I dig your website name, very Megadeth!
Tell us a bit about your new album, what was writing and recording for this album like?
Our debut EP, Played For Suckers was written in late 2019/early 2020 and recorded in August 2020. It's a collection of six songs that we felt best represented where we were at. The lyrics deal with city life, booze, identity and just our lives in Sydney's Inner West in general. Recording the EP was a fabulous experience. We were up on the Central Coast at a studio called Damien Gerard. We had Mo Mayhem producing and he was so fun and easy to work with, we're all stoked with the result.
Given the current state of the world, did it poise any issues towards the completion of the album?
Luckily in Australia at the time, things weren't too out of control and the 4 of us were able to work in a studio of this size. (This studio used to be a TV studio so it's quite large.)
Of course the current state of things isn't ideal, have you started to plan for what comes next once the world starts opening up again?
Yes! The thought of touring has us chomping at the bits so we'll most likely tour our next single/release.
Tell us a bit about yourself as a musician, who influences you?
Well I'm actually a drummer, I'm still fairly new to this singing/songwriting thing but I enjoy being able to shake my ass on stage. David Bowie has always inspired me, not only musically but his elegance, intelligence, the things he stood for, the way he walked... he was just the coolest in my opinion. My parents also inspire me a lot...
Who is your biggest bucket list band you've shared the stage with? Who would you love to share the stage with next?
Living Colour were amazing to open for... I think I'd like to go on tour with The Lemon Twigs one day... or Aerosmith, I'm easy!
What are some of the main themes behind the new album? What story are you trying to convey?
It has a real underdog feel. At the time that Starcrazy formed (a bit over a year ago), myself and the guitarist were going through a hard time with different situations and people we were dealing with in our life... We kind of just started writing together and before you knew it, things started rolling. We're not gonna let anyone play us for suckers again...
Last but not least, is there any message you would like to share with your fans?
Enjoy your life, people!
